After Nearly a Lifetime in a Shelter, 9-Year-Old Dog Finally Finds His Forever Home

January 20, 2026

Nine-year-old Onyx has spent nearly his entire life at Animal Charity of Ohio’s shelter. He arrived there at just two years old as an abuse case. Over the years, he became a beloved fixture at the shelter, even as staff never stopped working to make his stay temporary.

Although there were interested adopters along the way, none turned out to be the right fit. Then, just before Christmas, a special miracle arrived. A family came to meet Onyx and made an instant connection with Animal Charity’s longest resident.

The adoption brought plenty of tears and emotions for the staff and volunteers who had spent years trying to find him a home. Now, they say they are deeply grateful and overjoyed knowing that after so long, Onyx will finally have a family of his own.

As one staff member put it, “It worked out beautifully.”

A Christmas miracle is about to happen to one VERY deserving boy. After seven years of patiently waiting, my walking buddy, ONYX, is getting adopted. He is scheduled to leave Saturday afternoon. I'm super excited for ONYX, and excited for his new family because they are getting a wonderful, loveable boy. Ain't gonna lie... I WILL miss our weekly walks, though. Much thanks to Animal Charity of Ohio for taking great care of ONYX during his stay. Thanks to Sir Yacht for all he has done to help ONYX find a home.πŸ’™
Please wish/pray for a lifetime of love & happiness for ONYX and his new family.
ps- thank you ONYX for the years of memories from our walks & hikes.πŸ’™πŸ–€
