For five days, Lily has been searching for the people she loves.
After devastating floods swept through Nepal, the streets around Dhunga Bazaar were left in destruction—and the people Lily knew were suddenly gone.
Lily had grown up around the community. In the evenings, she would stay at a local hotel where people knew her, fed her and cared for her. But after the disaster, many of those people disappeared or were forced to leave. And Lily doesn’t seem to understand where they went.
For the past five days, she has continued roaming the same limited area, seemingly searching for the familiar faces she once knew. She keeps returning to the places where she had been cared for, as if she is waiting for someone to come back.
Two children who have known Lily since she was a puppy are now looking after her. But Lily is still waiting.
Her quiet vigil is heartbreaking—not only because she is searching for the people who cared for her, but because it reflects the devastating losses suffered by an entire community.
Lily doesn’t know exactly what happened. For now, all Lily can do is keep returning to the places where she remembers being loved.
