Man Takes Senior Dog Home So He Won’t Die Alone—But the Dog Finds New Purpose

March 21, 2026

Zack picked up a confused 16-year-old dog from the shelter so he wouldn’t die alone. He couldn’t hear or see out of one eye and he was diagnosed with cancer. “You could just feel his pain…he really wasn’t do well.”

Zack didn’t think the sweet boy, who he named Henry, had much longer – maybe a couple of days or couple of weeks.

But the next morning Henry seemed to perk up. Then he got surgery for his cancer and again he surprised Zack by bouncing back.

Months later, he’s galloping around the yard after his foster dad. Zack credits Henry’s newfound energy and purpose to having a family
