After a 2-year-old girl went missing in the woods in Dorchester, New Hampshire, on Friday afternoon, a worried community rallied together to find her. It was a dedicated search dog who ultimately found her.

New Hampshire Fish and Game and State Police received a call about the missing toddler after she wandered off her family’s fenced front yard with their two dogs. It’s unclear if the girl or the dogs managed to open the gate, but she had been missing 45 minutes when her family contacted authorities after desperately trying to locate her. With the temperatures and sun dropping they called for help. Shortly after, hundreds of people were combing the wooded area near the family’s home. Jeremy Corson and his K-9 partner, Freya, from New England K-9 Search and Rescue, were among the searchers.

Shortly after they began looking, Freya signalled that she had found the girl, who immediately told Corson she was cold and ready for a warm bath. “You’re able to scoop her up and start asking her questions, making some assessment, and the first thing she says to me was, ‘I’m cold, I think I’m ready for a bath.’ And that just broke my heart,” he said. “I’m like, all right, let’s get you home and have that bath.”

The girl, who loves dogs, threw the ball for Freya, who loves children. “It was a very sweet moment, said Corson. The girl is doing well and Corson is relieved and happy that he and Freya could help. He told WMUR-TV it’s what he trained 13 years to do.
