California Dog Reunites With Mom in Tearful Reunion After Being Found 3 Months Later in Illinois

Three months ago, Opie the dog was frightened by a storm at his home in Northern California and escaped from the yard. He was last spotted at a nearby gas station and after that he seemed to have vanished. His mom, Ciara Babcock tried to find him, but after months she was giving up hope. In her heart, she felt Opie hadn’t been killed, but instead believed someone had picked him up.

Then in October, Ciara got an unexpected call from the Itasca Police Department in Illinois: Opie was safe at DuPage County Animal Services. His microchip had led them to her. At first, Ciara couldn’t believe it. How did her dog end up over 2000 miles away? But when they sent a picture, she knew instantly it was him. She booked the first flight to Chicago, and their emotional reunion left her in tears.

Together, Ciara and Opie made a road trip home—turning heartbreak into a joyful adventure they’ll never forget. Their reunion is a reminder of the power of hope, love, and a tiny microchip.
