For two months, Bam Bam and his blind dad, Angel Santiago, were separated after the Dachshund was stolen from their home in June. But the Chicago man was finally reunited with his emotional support dog after Bam Bam was turned in to a local police department.

Santiago got a call at 9 p.m. 72 days after Bam Bam was stolen and at first thought it was a prank or scam. But it was, in fact, the 16th District police station. Two people showed up with Bam Bam and refused to answer any questions. Santiago and a friend raced down to the station to get him. Police found Bam Bam’s microchip and called Santiago. Santiago couldn’t believe it and checked over Bam Bam’s ears and face to make sure it was him. He was completely overwhelmed.

Bam Bam had been stolen after two people entered the backyard and took the 14-year-old dog. Santiago tried to confront them and give chase, but he fell several times and couldn’t catch up. His family put up flyers, a concerned citizen set up a GoFundMe, and a reward was offered. Santiago went out searching every day. He said many kind people helped in the search, and he thanked them all for their support.

Bam Bam was examined by a veterinarian. He was very skinny, had overgrown nails, and a few dried blood spots on his face. Santiago told news outlets that Bam Bam wasn’t his spunky self and wouldn’t fall asleep unless Santiago was right next to him. But no doubt the two will both sleep soundly now that they are back together.
