For three years, postal worker Ian Burke delivered mail to an elderly, wheelchair-bound Vietnam veteran and his dog, Floyd. Over time, during his daily rounds, he grew to look forward to seeing the pair.
When Burke’s route changed last year, he lost touch with them—until the mail carrier who took over let him know the veteran had passed away and that Floyd was now at an animal shelter. Burke knew immediately that he had to become Floyd’s new dad.
He headed straight to the Linda McNatt Animal Adoption Center, where Floyd had ended up. He told KHOU 11 News, “I went down the shelter at about 10 a.m. is when they opened. I got there at 9:50 to make sure I was first in line.”
