Recently, after storms devastated areas of De Doorns in South Africa, Sidewalk Specials drove through the region to check for injured dogs. Among the stray dogs living in a local trash dump was Penny. The rescue organization wrote that Penny’s “owner [ha]s been taken away to jail, local kids said she recently gave birth but all her puppies died in the cold, she has mange, a broken hip from being hit by a garbage truck, and she currently has absolutely nowhere to go…”
Starving and in pain, Penny was rescued and taken to a vet to assess her injuries. Thankfully, her fracture was treatable, and she was placed in foster care with a kind woman named Tam. For the first two weeks, Penny barely left her bed by the fireplace. She wouldn’t get up, but her little tail wagged furiously every time she received attention.
As she regained her strength, Penny befriended Tam’s cat and soon met a family eager to adopt her. Now, she’s her new dad’s best friend—joyfully running on the beach and loving life.
Below is the video from Sidewalk Specials of Penny’s rescue.
