Found as a stray and brought to a southern shelter, not much is known about Quasimodo’s past life. What is known is that the German Shepherd Dog has Short Spine Syndrome. Apparently, he is one of only 13 known dogs in the world with this rare genetic condition.

Quasi is thought to be around 5 years old and was rescued by Secondhand Hounds in Minnesota. He arrived at their rescue just a few days ago. Although he has yet to be assessed, the rescue group said that “he is a friendly, wonderful, sweet boy.”

The rare genetic condition causes a twisted spine, which may cause health problems with his internal organs later in life.

The spinal condition can be a result of backyard breeding. Two other dogs with the same spinal condition, Pig and Cuda, who have found loving homes regardless of their special needs.

On his second day with his rescuers, Quasi is seeing a vet to assess his condition. Here he is getting an x-ray. He seems very relaxed about it all
