When the friars at a Francisan monastery in Cochabamba, Bolivia posted photos of their latest member, they didn’t know that he would become a viral sensation. The good-humored friars dressed up the dog they adopted from an animal rescue in the traditional Franciscan garb as a humorous gesture, but it has gone on to win the hearts of millions of people around the world and to help encourage animal adoption

Kasper Mariusz Kapron OFM (OFM stands for the Order of Friars Minor) adopted Carmelo from Proyecto Narices Frias (Cold Nose Project), and nicknamed him Friar Bigoton (which in Spanish means “Moustache”).
