This adorable group of special needs dogs, named the “Fowler Herd” after their guardian, aren’t allowing their disabilities to control their lives.
Vermont resident Tracey Fowler dedicates her life to rescuing dogs with physical challenges in need of forever homes. She currently cares for seven dogs, five of which rely on wheelchairs to get around.
Tracey fell in love with special needs dogs when her German Shepherd, Hayden, was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy, a progressive spinal cord disease that affects some senior canines. She was scared that Hayden would struggle to adjust to his cart, but it took him no time at all to figure it out. Before she knew it, Hayden was riding around without any issues!
After Hayden passed away, Tracey decided to commit to caring for dogs who need some extra help. To maintain their mobility throughout winter, she even attaches skis to their carts when it snows.
This charming video of the Fowler Herd frolicking outside reminds us that animals with physical challenges can live fulfilling lives provided a little extra care and support.
