A simple walk on the trail turned into an adorable encounter between a Border Collie and an Australian Shepherd. And the sweet moment is warming the hearts of dog lovers everywhere.
In the viral clip, the two herding dogs spot each other and immediately drop into a play bow, tails wagging as they inch closer and closer across the path. They crawl forward until their noses nearly touch. The Collie bursts with excitement, circling the Aussie when he gets a sniff. Then, it’s off to the races and the pair are joined at the hip as they dash together along the path. It’s instant friendship!
One viewer put it succinctly:
“Collie: Did we just become best friends?
Aussie: Yep!”
The crouching posture both dogs show is common among herding breeds. It’s often referred to as “the prey sequence,” an inherited instinct that herding dogs often use in play. In this case, it’s their way of inviting each other to have fun. While the pair seemed a little shy at first, that vanishes the moment they get close to one another and their joyful play is nothing short of heart-melting.
